About the Teacher

Chu-Mei Sung Liao was born in Taiwan.  She studied at the Julius Stern Institute, a school for gifted young musicians under the auspices of the Berlin University of the Arts, and later at the Berlin Hanns Eisler Academy of Music (Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin), one of the top conservatories of Germany, where she received her master's degrees in piano performance and music education in 2001.  She studied with well-known pianists such as Prof. Elena Lapitskaja and Prof. Gerald Fauth.  From 2001 to 2007 she taught piano at National Taitung University and in the special music programs in various primary and secondary schools, in addition to private instructions.  She has also performed as solo pianist, in chamber-music ensembles, and with orchestras.  Since she moved to Saratoga, California, in July 2008, it is Chu-Mei’s desire to cultivate a love for classical music among young people and to bring the richness and rigor of the German music pedagogy to the community.

About the Studio

Wohltemperiertes Klavier Studio (pronounced: vohl-tem-pe-REER-tes klah-VEER; or simply WTK Studio) was established in October 2008.  It is named after the gold standard of keyboard music (known as Well-Tempered Clavier in English, or the “48”) of Johann Sebastian Bach.  It is our goal to train students to attain superior technique and musicality, both of which are exemplified in these masterpieces.
